Mock Journal

​Below is the creation of a mock journal. It is a very useful tool for younger age groups to compile notes and also a rubric for others to create an interactive journal. Watch closely as this student speeds through the construction of this tool with ease.

Loop Tower Exc. 

​Below is something called the Loop Tower Activity. It is a group activity which students will remove a cup from a group of fruit loops and then stack them on top of the cup only using the toothpicks attached to the cup.

​Book Tasting

The book tasting activity is one that is used to allow students to assess which books their book clubs will be reading. This activity is beneficial in that it allows students the opportunity to have ownership of their learning, which increases student participation.

Student Tracker Assessment
​

​Has anyone had an administrator walk in and ask a student what they're learning about (and the student didn't know). Well the student tracker is the remedy for this problem. Students complete a student tracker at the beginning of each class period. This document provides students with an outline of a days lesson when filled out. So that in the event that someone asks them about their learning they have developed the habit of knowing the details.

Hot-Potato Assessment

​This technique is a fun way to assess students comprehension. It also, is a way for students to release some kinetic energy and settle for later assignments.

Names & Nombres Characterization
​Part 1 & 2

​This assignment is one that allows students to practice independently characterizing the protagonist of a passage. Students begin with identifying the characters values, while accompanying it with credible text evidence. Students will then find commonality between the values and formulate an identity statement. Later, students will organize their findings in an essay.

Names & Nombres Characterization Assignment Part 2

This is the last part of the characterization process. Students organize their findings documented in their graphic organizer into essay format.

​This activity is a series of stations that allow students to get familiar with procedures, important locations, and working in groups.

Four Corners Activity
​

​This activity is designed for teachers to be able to assess student accuracy in short assignments. It also allows teachers to hear students elaborate on their answers.

Group Member Characterization Exercise

​The following exercise allows students to do a real world characterization of their group members.

​This activity separates the base text Names and Nombres into smaller sections and allows students to analyze the meaning of each section individually. This activity is can be completed in groups or individually.


​Characterization Board Game

​This is an example of a simple board game that will allow students the opportunity to drill usage of characterization techniques in a competitive setting. This activity also, allows for cool down activities throughout that help students with stamina issues to remain on task. Activity can be applied to a plethora of other skill sets.

Guess Who Review

This review game provides an engaging and focused review of content of any category. Question notecards should be interchangeable to insure a focused and structured learning experience.

Bounce-Off Review

This is a game that could keep students engaged during review of any content category. Question note cards should be interchangeable to insure a structured focused review.
